Does GSA's New AI Clause Reach Your Business Through the Supply Chain?

Does GSA's New AI Clause Reach Your Business Through the Supply Chain?

In July I wrote that AI security was becoming a supply-chain eligibility gate. Now it has a clause number. GSA’s GSAR 552.239-7001 takes effect October 19, 2026: no training on government data, audit logging, time-bound access and 72-hour notice of a material violation.

The part most small and mid-sized companies will miss is the flowdown. It reaches subcontractors that build, deploy or operate an LLM processing Government Data, and primes have to back it up with attestations and due diligence. You may never sign a GSA contract and still end up holding this paper.

In this piece, I break down what the clause actually requires, why the flowdown is the real story and a seven-question readiness check to run before a prime sends you the attestation.
